Gospel artistes come together

As the day to celebrate Botswana’s independence approaches, a line- up of different events to celebrate the day is under way.

To celebrate the day, Morebodi foundation will host a special red carpet event dubbed Independence Gospel Concert where local gospel artistes will come on one stage to celebrate Botswana and remember where gospel artistes come from in the music industry.                 

The theme for the day is , Taking Gospel to the People in achieving Artistic Excellence by 2016 -Botswana Pele.

Speaking in an interview the executive secretary of Morebodi Foundation, Kagiso Morebodi said as a way of making the day great the artistes came together and composed a theme song for the event which started playing on radio stations last week and the copies for the song will be given away for free during the event.

He said the theme song is called IGC All Stars- Re Leboga Modimo which fit very well as September is regarded as the month of prayer, taking the vision forward and that of the nation’s independence. He said the event will be an uplifting and life changing concert which will start at 6pm and it will be celebrated annually to promote Botswana and gospel music.

He said the Independence Gospel Concert is a way of thanking God for the humility, protection, leadership, strength, loving and botho that the nation continue to show and to enjoy  over the past years and also a way of telling a story of how gospel has significantly contributed to the nation of Botswana and Batswana at large since 1966.

He said the event will bring gospel artistes together on one stage in Gaborone to celebrate Botswana independence through an uplifting and spiritual live performance experience and aiming to unite the people as it is the right message for the general public to know God. He noted that gospel music is a spiritual connection tone to one’s life as it also comforts and bring peace to one’s soul and heart.

Morebodi said Show Group will do the stages as they came on board as a partner, as well as other partners who are part of the event such as Ministry of Sports Youth and Culture, Jack’s Gym and other partners who will do the decorations and sponsor performers with attire while Botswana Television is expected to cover the event and broadcast it on independence day.

He said they are currently working on a magazine that will feature artistes profiles and sponsors where Batswana youth will be engaged in marketing, graphics and producing the magazine and they will be given a living allowance for upkeep.

He said there will be different sessions during the concert and the other session where artistes will wear Botswana colors joined with a candle light adding that the whole show is all scripted down to ensure perfection.

Morebodi Foundation was established as a Trust in Botswana, to fully participate on issues of people living with disability, by providing after care to babies born with certain medical conditions, to also enable children/people living with disability to participate more in the society in all ways without any discrimination.  

An amount from the proceeds will be donated to the identified children who need care due to their conditions.  

The special event will take place on September 26  at Boipuso Hall with entrance fee of P100 and this year the event will feature local gospel artistes as a way of bringing gospel on board which will help gospel music to grow and to be fully recognised. The lineup for performing artistes will include Tshepo Lesole, Phempheretlhe, Mmereki Marakakgoro, Suggie Fisher, Kabelo Eric, Charity, Matthews Matsetse, Joyful Ambassadors, GK, Turning Point (Accappella), UCCSA Choir Mogoditshane (Choral)and Ditsala Moreneng (Clap&Tap).
