Sharon surprises Mascom Live crowd
14 Sep 2015
Apart from being MyStar 2012 winner, little is known about songbird Sharon Sibonge, who performed at the Mascom Live Sessions which featured the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi on Friday (Septemeber 11).
One would have thought having Sharon share the stage with the fabled Mtukudzi was somehow not a good idea given she was just a nonentity whose songs were not even familair to some people.
However, the lady surprised and won the hearts of many who attended the session with her amazing performance receiving much appreciation. Sharon was first on stage. While initially people seemed uninterested, eventually everyone started to enjoy her music as she delivered an electrifying performance.
Meanwhile, the peak of the event was when the Zimbabwean afro-jazz maestro descended stage and it was evidently the moment most people had waited for.
The ageing Mtukudzi, as usual, performed to expectation and it was amazing how he still had that energy on stage. Songs such as Neria proved to be the favourite to fans as the audience sang along as Mtukudzi performed it.
A true legend indeed, Tuku thrilled his followers with the song, Shamiso, which was a dedication to his late son who passed on in 2010.
Other songs which people screamed and danced to as the talented Mtukudzi was performing were Mutserendende and Todii, among others.
However, after the show ended, there were murmurs from the crowd that his stage time was short as they had expected more from him. Meanwhile, the next Mascom Live Sessions will be in October and will feature South Africa’s Lira and some Botswana artistes. Ends
