10 Sep 2015

Major Moves Comedy is back with fresh and innovative concepts for their annual country tour.

The group’s media liaison officer, Gaolathe Kediemetse, said having produced Heavyweights International Comedy Festival (HICOFEST), the Rail Park Comedy & Wine Night and the second Francistown Comedy and Poetry Night, it was proper to organise more events around the country.

On September 12, he said, the All Star Comedy Tour will be at Orapa, an event which is set to build capacity while elevating stand-up comedy to mainstream levels.

“The headlines for the upcoming show are the queen of local comedy, Kelekwang ‘Rekunde’ Mophaleng and Phenyo The Master,” he said.

Phenyo, who hails from Mochudi, has had a great year having performed in South Africa at the monthly Tips & Friends show. He was also part of the lineup at the Strictly Come Laughing event.

In addition, he performed at the 2nd annual Francistown Comedy & Poetry Night and got rave reviews. “He will be brining clean, high energy, fun and clever comedy to the show,” he said.

The Maun-based Rekundeis no stranger to comedy having recently performed at the Queens of Comedy, HICOFEST 2015 and 2014 Mahalapye Home Coming Comedy show.  She  would bring in a fresh and innovative humour to all the shows she performs at, always leaving the audience asking for more.

Her material has been played on radio stations such as Motsweding FM in South Africa (SA) and RB2. She has also competed during My African Dream competition and made it to the finals. Major Moves Comedy makes a point of introducing new talent to share the stage with top acts during each show they host.

During the Orapa show, Zozo from Dikhukhung and the 2013 President’s Day competition finalist and female comedian Amantle from Tonota will make their debut.

Also on the roster are Mochudi lads, Bonnie and Legusty who rocked the immediate past Major Moves Comedy shows. They have toured with some of the industry’s top comedians and are versatile comedians on stage.

The show will be hosted by the Tsabong-based and two-time President Day Competition winner, Odirile Brooks.

“We have had tremendous support for our past tours in the country from both the public and the media alike.

We promise a rocking show with this production and we have an accessible venue to accommodate a lot of people patrons must come in numbers to support us,” said Kediemetse. Their main aim, he said, is to see standup comedy growing in Botswana, being taken seriously as part of entertainment adding that they would love to see the comedy scene changed in the country for the better.
