Mascom live sessions line-up rich
03 Sep 2015
The next Mascom Live Sessions event slated for September 11 is perhaps good news to Tuku music fans.
Legendary Oliver Mtukudzi, affectionately known as Tuku in music circles, is set to perform in the country again after several successful shows at BotswanaCraft in the past years. The veteran musician will perform alongside local upcoming talented artiste, Sharon Sibonge, who is also the 2012 My Star winner.
Mascom Live Sessions started in 2011 and to date BotswanaCraft has hosted high profile artistes in the likes of Hugh Masekela, Oliver Mutukudzi, Ringo Madlingozi, Salif Keita, Thomas Mapfumo, Banjo Mosele, Shanti Lo, Micassa, Lira, Celtic Fusion and Bhudaza among others.
The live sessions which are held throughout the year are some of the exciting events in BotswanaCraft’s calendar while they create an opportunity for local talents to get exposure to a growing market.
This time around however people will be treated to the lovely music of one of the best live artistes, the Zimbabwean jazz maestro.
Meanwhile, Mtukudzi has become the most recognised voice to emerge from Zimbabwe and onto the international scene, while he has earned a devoted following across Africa and beyond. He has had a number of tours around the world as he has been to the United States of America, United Kingdom and Canada among other places performing to large audiences.
Mostly Mtukudzi sings in Shona along with Ndebele and English, while he also incorporates elements of different musical tradition.
However, local song bird, Sharon Sibonge or Shazz as her fans address her has worked with popular jazz icons before, such as Ndingo Jowa and Banjo Mosele as their backup vocalist. Ends
