Transition is an artsy, soulful way Botswana’s Neo soul RnB sensation, Samantha Mogwe shares her life experience with the world. She gave a thrilling performance at Botswana Craft recently during the debut album launch.
One more try just a little bit, You say don’t cry but I can’t deal with this, These tears won’t dry what’s wrong with me, I’m not ready, ready for change, No I’m not ready for change, If it means saying good bye to you, I won’t deny this pain is real and I won’t fight these mixed emotions no; are lyrics of her title track, Transition in her 13-track album, which she said were written when she was mourning the death of her uncle, who she said had always encouraged her to be a better artiste.
In an interview, Samantha said when her uncle passed on about two years ago, she was still in the process of producing an album, but she could not write anything at the time because of the grief.
“For a month I was grieving, I was in pain and when I went to the studio I could not produce anything at all until my producer (Tshepo Lesole) told me to write anything I was feeling at the time.
That was the birth of Transition she said. Twenty-seven-year-old Samantha, who has been singing since the tender age of six, told BOPA that she heeded the advice of her producer and poured out her emotions in ink, then began to sing.
“This was liberating I must say,” she said.
Undoubtedly this would later transform to be the masterpiece that serenades airwaves to date. When treating her supporters to a live performance, her sound composure on stage and unparalleled vocal controls got her supporters glued to her performance, dancing and singing along.
Seated at the front row during the launch was renowned entertainer, Motswafere, who appeared lively, shaking his head in rhythm while seated, “Mmmh you go gal!” he would shout at the top of his voice.
In an interview on the sidelines of the performance, Motswafere could not hide his excitement. “This is awesome. I got what I wanted. She got the best voice I have ever heard in live performances locally,” he said.
However, he expressed disappointment at the unsatisfactory turnout despite Samantha Mogwe’s overflowing talent, “I am ashamed of Batswana for not turning up in large numbers to support Samantha,” he said.Another supporter also seated on the front row was Tuauana Retsang, who appreciated Samantha’s sound stage presence.
