True diamonds show to inspire
30 Aug 2015
The founder of Botswana’s True Diamonds, a second year student at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences in the United Kingdom, Kaene Disepo has said his inspiration was driven by the eminent lack of youth participation in socio-political economic issues.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA recently, he said that his television programme’s vision stems from the lack of youth involvement on issues concerning the socio-political economic issues prevalent in the discourse of the country’s modernity.
“Inspired by a humble background, I strove to come up with a youth leadership TV show, which fosters incredible critical thinking skills and promotes a thriving enterprise culture for Batswana,” Disepo said.
Botswana’s True Diamonds will be primarily focusing on youth leadership and social responsibility.,This TV show will be a competition showcasing 10 inspired young leaders between 18 and 30 years old, who will be debating on key issues that surrounds Botswana’s socio economic, moral and political landscape.
The youngster went on to explain that this programme is twofold, firstly the young leaders will each be given a task based on nine themes from education, moral to health and they will be taken to different stakeholders for presentations.
They will have a chance to interview the general public about the best implementation policy and at the end of the week, they will debate against each other on the best solution and will be judged by a panel of experts.
Secondly, Botswana’s True Diamonds will have a section whereby candidates will also present a viable, feasible and low capital cost business idea to the general public and soft copies of their ideas will be posted on the social media for the public to gain access. “This is something, which is obviously untested in Botswana’s media, and I strongly feel we are ready for this paradigm shifting,” he said.
The benefits of this programme permeates grassroots potential in that they promote a sense of self reliance through the provision of eye opening business ideas, which requires low initial capital costs yet both viable and sustainable.
Moreover, since there are some stakeholders involved, there is obvious consensus-based holistic approach to tackling issues, which promotes a sense of responsible citizenry for everyone involved. ENDS
