Councillors congratulate artistes

25 Aug 2015

Molepolole/Lentsweletau councillors have applauded artists from the sub-district who performed exceptionally well in the 2015 President’s Day national arts competitions held during the July holidays.

Speaking during a sub-council forum in Molepolole recently the councillors noted how the arts can provide employment opportunities, especially for the youth who are hard hit by unemployment.

They also commended government for developing the performing arts sector, citing sponsorship of students into arts-related academic programmes at tertiary institutions.  They said the gesture will motivate the youth to pursue the arts and become successful artists.

The councillors said the development will keep the youth away from criminal activities.

The councillors made the comments after Lentsweletau/Molepolole sub-council chairperson, Cllr Botokanyana Motoroko, informed them that artists from the local authority scooped nine medals in the President’s Day arts competition finals.

He said some of the achievers are Dipela tsa ga Kobokwe, who obtained position one in phathisi whilst Goitseone Ntota of Peo Creations emerged the overall best actress under the drama category.

He further said Baboloki Gapi emerged the best graphic designer in the visual arts category while Gothusang Lesego was named the best photographer.  Oratile Ofentse came out tops in wood carving. Ends
