Solly Cannon, a local photographer is currently on a mission to take the world by storm in his quest to affirm his passion for the arts and love for photography.  

The Kanye-born and former photography student at the University of Pretoria thrives on controversy and being completely uncensored. 

In an interview, Solly who was on his way to an international shooting assignment of a high profile in Zimbabwe, said his love for photography comes from an early age. 

He later decided to mix his love and passion for people and photography to start a business that would give his clients the ultimate photographic experience. 

“Solly Cannon Photography is more than just a group of photographers taking snap shots. We pride ourselves in knowing exactly what our clients want most and delivering exactly what they desire,” he said. 

In 2010, he revealed that Solly Cannon, the individual decided to form and launch Solly Cannon the company.

“Solly Cannon Photography is a division of Solly Cannon Holdings and it is my brainchild.”

He said Solly Cannon Photography is a proud supporter and recipient of the Brand Botswana Pride Mark and that the company is also a distributor and re-seller of cameras.

“We also sell outdoor and camping equipment through our sister company, Camera & Stuff. Some of our product brands include, Sigma, Nikon, BENQ, Bridgedale, Osprey and Sea and others,” he said. 

He pointed out that the company would provide every client, should they require, with a state of the art camera and zoom lens free, if they book a photographic Safari with his company.

“With a collection of modern cameras, a client can chose which photographic equipment best suits their needs. From Canon 650D bodies to Sigma 50-500mm and 120- 400mm lenses.”

Currently, he is working in association with Falcon Safaris Botswana based in Maun to rent out cameras and camping equipment.

“Some people think I am crazy. They say I take this photography thing too serious.  Well, I don’t know, but photography took me pretty serious when it started paying my bills and sending me to all expenses paid trips across the world,” he added. 

His company was recently awarded a tender by the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to shoot a graduation ceremony scheduled for September 18. 

“Well, this is the biggest project at Solly Cannon Photography, since we are shooting a combined graduation for all IHS and teachers colleges,” he said. 

Also, his company was engaged to do outdoor photo projects for the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs in Kasane. 

“Some of my other clients are Nayang Association, Botswana Congress Party, Botswana Democratic Party, International Institute of Internal Auditors, Prison Fellowship International Botswana, auto city Gaborone, Celebration Church Lobatse, Botswana Society For Human Development, Wood Med Holdings, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and Cresta President Hotel among others.”

In addition, he has created employment for other young people such as makeup artists, videos and photo editors, marketing and various photographers.
