Police record seven deaths

At least seven people reportedly died during the Christmas holidays.

Superintendent Mahoko Tamajobe of Botswana Police Services' public relations office said three murder incidents occurred on Christmas Day at Khakhea, Sekhukhwane lands in Kweneng and Mosiang lands near Moshupa. Supt Tamajobe said in one of the incidents, an 18-year-old student of Lobatse Senior Secondary School was allegedly murdered by her 22-year-old boyfriend after a misunderstanding.

Still on Christmas Day, a 23-year-old man of Ramokgwebana committed suicide by hanging himself from the rafters of his house. It was alleged that the deceased had a misunderstanding with his family in the early hours of Christmas Day.

In Tutume, police were investigating an incident in which a 27-year-old man of Nkange died after the vehicle he was driving overturned along the Nkange/Changate road.

Police also recorded two deaths in Mahalapye and Ramotswa. He said a two-month-old baby was found unconscious in her parents’ house in Mahalapye and was later certified dead at the hospital, while a 51-year-old man of Ramotswa was found lying by the roadside at Seroma lands and later certified dead at Bamalete Lutheran Hospital.  ENDS
