13 Aug 2015

The Miss Vision 2016 beauty contest which was first held four years ago is back and the final auditions will be held on Saturday August 15 in Gaborone from 8:30am to 6pm.

Pageant director, Moremi Mogotetsi of Hopeful Souls Enterprises said they were looking for a lady who would carry the responsibility of representing the national vision and making a difference in the national development process.

“Miss Vision 2016 is a beauty contest with a difference as it is geared towards remembrance and the celebration of Vision 2016, and we are looking for a woman who will work diligently for the country,” he said.

He said they were looking for a woman who would show passion for the country and teach the nation about Vision 2016.

“We want a lady who is 18 years and above who can stand up and say I am a proud Motswana, and I can represent all stakeholders with dignity, botho and pride because I know the ideals of our national vision,” he said

He added that the event, which is supported by the Vision 2016 Council, as well as the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture was intended to give Batswana hope as they prepare towards 2016 and Botswana’s 50th anniversary celebrations next year.

“This event is designed to encourage Batswana, especially the youth to embrace and live the vision. The event is a platform intended to educate Batswana about the realisation of the national vision.

It is inspired by the fact that Batswana have embraced and are excelling in beauty pageantry at international level,” he said.

He also said Miss Vision 2016 does not put emphasis on skin colour or physical appearance and that mothers were welcome to participate since there were no restrictions.

“People living with disabilities are also welcome and encouraged to come for auditions, in fact there were two people living with disabilities who auditioned at the last audition in Francistown.

All contestants are also encouraged to speak in their mother tongue as using a language you are most comfortable in can be an added advantage,” he noted.

The organisers of the pageant said the inaugural queen of the event has done remarkable charity work including working with people with disabilities at Tlamelong Centre by helping them to explore their talents in the arts so that they can also be shining examples for the nation in line with Vision 2016 pillars.

“The second queen embarked on a project that involved promoting productivity in the work place so Batswana can realise Vision 2016 goals of prosperity for all. She also organised a sponsored walk which was supported by the then director of Public Service Management, Carter Morupisi,” he said.

The central region auditions were held this past weekend at BIUST University Campus Sports Hall. Entrance fee for audition is P200.

Previous winners of the past auditions of the pageant are Maipelo Mbakile and the reigning queen, Dimpho Pule. The final for the fourth annual Miss Vision 2016 is scheduled for September 26 in Palapye. ENDS
