Water utilities to introduce new billing system
12 Aug 2015
Water Utilities Cooperation intends to introduce the new prepaid system to their customers in the near future.
Responding to concerns of Letlhakane residents in a kgotla meeting water works engineer in the area, Mr Simon Kutlwano said the current billing system that had long been a cause for concern was the reason for the proposed prepaid system to be introduced.
“The government has recommended that we use the prepaid system as it will be effective,” he said.
He told residents that money was already allocated for the programme to commence. Mr Kutlwano highlighted that they would not instantly roll out the system in the whole country, but that it would be done slowly in different geographical areas until the country was covered.
He continued to say that different companies have submitted their proposal on how they would work out the system. On other issues, he said water leakages in the village were caused by the base of their pipes that were starting to wear off.
He revealed that they have since purchased new pipes to replace the old ones.
He noted that their teams and pipe fitters were inundated by the situation because they were also engaged in other areas like Mosu.
He further said the other factor that incapacitates their efforts in attending to them was the Mopipi pipeline that was constantly destroyed by elephants and as a result their teams were always dispatched there.
Mr Kutlwano assured residents that the leakages would in no way affect their bills unless their yards were affected. ENDS
