Hospital undertakes disease prevention campaign
12 Aug 2015
Thamaga Primary Hospital will soon embark on a campaign around the village to educate residents on the advantages of preventing diseases.
Speaking in an interview, the hospital’s chief medical officer Dr Jacques Tshimbalanga said they realised that most people lack basic knowledge on how to prevent diseases such as hypertension and sugar diabetes, among others.
He said educating the masses can be cost effective as treating diseases is expensive. He argued that teaching people about disease prevention will cut the costs of buying drugs. Dr Tshimbalanga attributed the spread of some diseases to ignorance on preventative measures.
He said they will visit village wards and schools for health talks, screening for various afflictions, and to help those who need urgent attention.
Dr Tshimbalanga also advised people to eat right and exercise a lot. He encouraged the youth to go for HIV/AIDS testing at an early age so that it can be easy for them to be monitored if they have the virus.
He said it is very important for people not to wait for symptoms of illness before they go to the hospital. He advised that people should go for regular screening to avoid premature death and terminal diseases that could have been prevented.
Dr Tshimbalanga further urged people to educate themselves about various diseases and visit hospitals for more information. ENDS
