Maun public officers choir makes inroads

A newly assembled civil servants choir from the North West district is making an instant mark in the now four-year-old Public Service Day competitions as they scooped position two in their second appearance at this year’s national competitions.
The leader of the choir Chankie Gabolathiwe told BOPA that their latest success was not spurring considering how they got position three out of 15 singing groups in their debut last year.
However, Gabolathiwe lamented that their instant success belied the challenges they faced of lack of support from heads of department of the different government departments found in the region.
He said although the district commissioner had allowed for members to be released from work after lunch for more hours of training, some supervisors ignored the request.
However, he pointed out that the attitude never discouraged them from practicing every day after working hours so that their voices were up to scratch.
Further, Gabolathiwe pleaded for pledges and donations from members of the public because they need uniforms for their performances.
He said his choir was able to raise P4 000 during the official opening of the North West District Council meeting recently. ENDS
