SA continuity donates to Masa primary

10 Aug 2015

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraela Goya says education is a public good which does not benefit its recipients only, but the entire well-being of a nation.

Speaking at the handing over of computers at Masa Primary School recently, Mr Goya said the government continues to recognise and accept its obligation to fund education.

He added that education was a weapon that could address the challenges of unemployment and under employment.

Mr Goya said if education was treated as a public good, the burden of managing and resourcing education would not be left on the shoulders of the government alone.

“It is in light of the foregoing that my ministry introduced the Adopt-A-School initiative to encourage the private sector, NGO’S, churches and members of the community to partner with the government to make the running of schools a shared responsibility,” he said.

Mr Goya noted that the Continuity SA Botswana company’s partnership with the ministry has long existed.

He said as a social corporate responsibility, the company has seen it fit to donate computers to Masa Primary School.

“We are in the information age and computers will improve a culture of research and motivate learners to carry out independent studies,” he said. Mr Goya commended SA Continuity for their effort and encouraged pupils of Masa to use the computers accordingly, and to refrain from using the Internet for things which were not of benefit to them.

For his part, the managing director of SA Continuity, Mr Jacob Mothudi said the donation would help better results within the education sector.

He said donating computers to the school was a way of building foundation towards creating skills needed by the industry.

Mr Mothudi said Masa primary was the third school to benefit from their donation after Palapye primary and Gabane primary.

He said SA Continuity did not do it alone, but joined forces with other companies to make the donation a reality.

The school received 10 computers, 30 chairs, 10 tables, air conditioner, siren, network and power all to the tune of P100 000

The school head, Ms Rose Koontse applauded the company for the donation, which she said would take her school a step forward to enhance the learning environment. ENDS
