09 Aug 2015

The youthful artiste, Omaatla Setlhare (22), known to his fans as C-thug has hit the airwaves with his latest release called I.

The upcoming rapper, who is also a young farmer of Kachikau, started his music career at primary school where he used to write lines and mimic other songs from rappers like Eminem, Mr T, Scar andTupac who inspired him.

C-thug told BOPA that his rapping skills showed off at junior school where he started writing poems in English. In December 2013 he started visiting Heaven Sent Production to familiarise himself with the studio.

For nine months he worked on his skills until he perfected them. He said music is not just about being behind the microphone and singing but also one needs to work hard, standing in-front of the producer to come up with a good song and perfect beats.

He said in September 2014 he recorded a song called When you are gone  featuring Tsholo which put him into the limelight and promoted him as fans responded well to the track.

The single called I hit the market this year June which is his official single recorded at Rock Lefatshe studios and the beat done by Hendry Maliq-Ul-Shu`ara from Head Nod.

He said the official single was mastered and recorded by Suffocate and I is just a simple love song dedicated to all women and ladies in love and appreciating their presence in the lives of men.

He also noted that he found it appropriate to recognise women especially in this month of women.

C-thug said he is motivated by the saying that every journey starts with a few steps and he has been through challenges but has never lost hope.

He said he believes he will take Botswana further to the international level through hard work.

The young star said his love for farming makes him look to the future with positivity.

He spends most of the time at the farm and loves taking care of his animals and has no problem balancing his music career and farming.

Among some of his projects lined up is a clothing label which he wants to develop into a brand and to engage a few artistes to work on releasing a full album.

He has performed at Trekkers in Kasane recently and is also scheduled to perform in Mochudi at the Miss Independence show in September.

He urges Batswana to support local talent and upcoming stars so that the music industry grows big and people live better through arts.

He also said his single I can be downloaded for free on facebook page called C-thug/Lil C.

C-thug expressed his gratitude to President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama for his support of performing arts which has boosted their morale as upcoming artistes to stand on their own and use their God given talents to make a living.

He encourages artistes like him to be true to themselves and do the best they can and never quit in the face of adversaries. Ends
