Classroom collapses at Thuso Rehab
09 Aug 2015
The management of Thuso Rehabilitation Centre is appealing for financial support to re-build an old classroom that recently came crushing down.
In an interview, the acting deputy executive director of the centre, Mr Sahai Buka said the structure, which was built in the early 1980’s was dilapidated and had cracks.
Fortunately, the collapse did not result in any fatalities. He said the incident has affected learning as it limits the intake of students at the centre. Mr Buka said they have had to squeeze learners into one classroom while others were taught in open spaces.
He said efforts have been made to ask for donations from the business community and the public at large.
He lauded some companies for donating some building materials. Mr Buka, however, said the donation was not enough to construct a fully fledged classroom and appealed for further assistance. He added that the centre was financially crippled.
“We have no other means to source funds to construct the collapsed structure,” he said.
Thuso Rehabilitation Centre is a training institution for people living with disabilities. Its goal is to provide rehabilitation services to the disabled in Ngamiland, Chobe, Charleshill and Ghanzi. The centre aims to create opportunities for people living with disability to find socio-economic independence. Ends
