Patients welfare important
06 Aug 2015
Intern students from the University of Botswana and Bosabosele Training Institute have donated 20 chairs to Palapye Extension 3 clinic.
Speaking during the donation ceremony in Palapye recently, Madiba ward social worker, Ms Dipogiso Gaabake said the initiative was part of the students’ project which they would be assessed on.
She said the donation showed that people have embraced the Vision 2016 pillar of ‘a compassionate, just and a caring nation.’
The interns, she said, were attached at the social and community development office. One of the interns, Ms Gosego Pheto from University of Botswana said they saw it fit to donate chairs because the welfare of patients was important.
She said they visited a number of government departments in Palapye to find out what their needs were. Ms Pheto said they found shortage of chairs at Extension 3 Clinic as an important factor that needed to be addressed for the sake of patients’ welfare.
Another intern student, Ms Masego Keinametse from Bosabosele Training Institute said they managed to raise P800 which they used to buy 20 chairs.
She said it was not easy to raise the money as some people did not help them because they did not trust them, adding that they had to contribute from their pockets.
However, she applauded those who assisted them with funds and appealed to Batswana to have the spirit of team work and support. Mmaphula West councillor, Ms Segametsi Ralegoreng applauded the intern students for their compassionate nature. She urged them to have the same spirit of compassion wherever they go.
Other interns who were part of the project were Mr Victor Motsumi from UB, Ms Pearl Makhumalo and Ms Selebaleng Utlwanang, both from Bosabosele Training Institute. Ends
