Miss Botswana hits shores with new look
06 Aug 2015
Media relations director of Miss Botswana, Tshepo Maphanyane has revealed that Miss Botswana fitness activities will kick off this weekend to help put the contestants in good shape.
Maphanyane said this in an interview following the selection of 30 girls who made it through during the auditions held in Francistown and Gaborone recently.
She said although they have 30 girls at the moment, they are going to employ various methods to screen them so that they remain with the best 12 who will contest in the pageant’s finale scheduled for September 29.
Maphanyane said they met with the girls and their guardians to take them through the pageant’s processes and expectations so that they clarify certain issues which might confuse them in future.
She said this year’s emphasis is more into empowering the girls academically which might open opportunities for them to compete in the global world.
“It should be understood that this pageant is aimed at raising beautiful and admirable women. Beauty is not just about looks, but the poise and other qualities that define a woman. We want women of substance who can be celebrated.
Hopefully this will erase people’s perception that pageants attract unintelligent beauties,’’ she added.
She said that the activities will run until the last week of the finale and highlighted that the girls will be trained on various aspects such as etiquette, public speaking among other things.
She explained that this is an opportunity to open doors for even those who will not get the crown because they will also use the Miss Botswana platform to start something by networking with various stakeholders involved.
She said their aim is to produce girls who meet certain societal standards and could be viewed as role models. Ends
