Police boat stuck in delta
06 Aug 2015
A Botswana Police Service airboat has been stuck in the Okavango Delta in Seronga since Friday (July 31) after it had a mechanical fault while transporting a corpse.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday (August 5), Seronga police station commander, Superintendent Constantine Chilambampani, confirmed that the boat was carrying the corpse of a 74-year-old Gunotsoga man who was found dead after disappearing for several days.
However, he said they managed to move the corpse, police officers and the medical doctor to another boat on the same day.
He said the family reported the man to be missing a week ago and he was found dead near a boat he was using near Baobab Lodge in the Okavango Delta.
Supt Chilambampani said they suspected that the old man might have been killed by wild animals while on a fishing expedition. He cautioned people against fishing in the delta as it exposed them to attacks from wild animals.
Seronga police boss advised members of the public to go fishing near public places so that they could be helped easily when trouble breaks out. Ends
