Land board urges Okavango residents to register plots

04 Aug 2015

Residents in the Okavango Sub-district have been urged to register their plots.

Speaking at the launch of the Land Administration Procedures and Capacity Systems (LAPCAS) recently, Tawana Land Board secretary, Ms Gabofete Raditladi said the project is meant to survey all the plots in the district, therefore it was very imperative for the residents to cooperate.

She said by registering the plots, it will enable them to be easily tracked as their plots will be numbered.

“Whenever you need emergency help like ambulance, your plot will be easily accessed and development costs such as utility service providers will be reduced,” she said.

Ms Raditladi also said the system will help them to access information of the land holders, adding that the plots will be surveyed for free at the cost of government, which will be advantageous for plot owners.

“I encourage you to register while government is able to help. Surveying a plot is costly and in future you will have to pop out a lot of money to do it, therefore I encourage you to use this opportunity,” Ms Raditladi explained.

Kgosi Malebogo Raditse welcomed the project and advised villagers to cooperate with the land board by visiting their premises to register.

He said he believes the LAPCAS Project will also help in land fights among families as they will have an idea of who the plot belonged to so that they give it to their children when the initial owner becomes deceased.

The LAPCAS launch, which was hosted by the Tawana Land Board from Maun, began in Okavango where it was rolled out to Seronga, Shakawe and Gumare villages.

It ended in Nokaneng village where villagers were encouraged to register as many plots as possible. Ends
