Thamaga gang face more charges

The prosecution recently added two more counts on top of the murder charge faced by 10 Thamaga young men who are accused of instigating last year’s terror in the village.

A woman was killed at her homestead in Thamaga and the police have attributed the death to a gang of youth from Sau ward in Thamaga, all under 30 years of age.

In court last week, the prosecution added charges of malicious damage to property and causing grievous bodily harm. 

Among the nine is a 17-year-old boy and Moreri Motlhakolane, Ketshephaone Mmereki, Chris Kealeba, Mpho Ramoruswane, Oarabile Metse, Keabetswe Metse, Kabelo Marokosi and Mogatusi Tlhakojame. 

The suspects are said to have acted together to injure Ms Thoko Ramotuana by stabbing her four times with a sharp object.

They are also said to have, on the same night at the same place, destroyed window panes, a television set, utensils and a vehicle window all valued at P1 713 and belonging to Ms Maggie Monare. 

The case is expected to continue on the 10th of August before magistrate Lindiwe Makgoro.

Meanwhile, the Molepolole Magistrate Court has granted bail to 29-year-old Tebogo Gasemakwena, who is accused of murdering Tuelo Mogapi last February in Gamodubu. 

The conditional bail binds the accused with the sum of P1  500 plus two sureties who would also bind themselves with the same amount. The money is payable once the accused breaches his bail conditions. In addition, the accused was warned not be a suspect in any criminal acts during his bail.

In the same court, a 31-year-old Zimbabwean, who is accused of falsely obtaining a Botswana national identity card appeared before the magistrate court and he is out on bail. 

Wilson Brother was nabbed in August 2014 after the police questioned the status of his Omang and how he obtained it. 

The prosecution said investigations were over and that the case document had been sent to the DPP for assessment of evidence. The accused is expected to appear for mention again on 28 September. Ends
