Upcoming young artistes set to benefit

02 Aug 2015

Upcoming young artistes, musicians and dancers are set to benefit from a new initiative by other young Batswana who are looking to empower and improve Botswana’s music and dance scene.

The project is called Club Activation Tour and is the brainchild of two young men, Oteng Segoboi and Baetla Otsogile of Down Town Groove Tainment which will see young upcoming artistes perform at clubs around the country as a way to develop them.

Speaking in an interview, the chief executive officer of Down Town Groove Tainment Segoboi said the first club activation tour will start in Lobatse on July 31.

“We are set to invade Lizard News Nite Club and we will have 15 upcoming artists who will perform at the venue,” adding that performances for the tour will strictly be from upcoming local artists and the cover charge is P25.

Quizzed on how they will select the artists who perform, he indicated that they have a roaster of the artists they represent, but added that they also identify other upcoming artists who can be part of the tour.

He said the tour will also be used to measure and monitor artists and also gauge the reception from people.

“We will have different artists every time we do an activation tour,” he said.

Speaking on how the artists will be remunerated for their efforts, he said the agreement is to have the artists share the money from the gatetakings.

He said they provide transport and any other logistic required for them, and have also partnered with a number of stakeholders to carry the idea forward.“We have partnered with local music and dance patrons to avail artists on a regular basis, and also negotiated with club owners to avail their venues for the tour,” he said.

Segoboi further indicated that another objective of the tour is to bring together artists and encourage them to work together.

“Botswana’s artists hardly ever work together and share ideas on how best to advance their career,” he said.He noted that some of the upcoming artists do have talent but cannot afford tours to promote themselves hence the activation club tour.

“Interested artists should check our facebook page and interact with us so that they help us build this to an even better concept,” he concluded. Ends
