Stamps set to raise awareness
23 Jul 2015
Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism Tshekedi Khama says the Okavango Delta Commemorative Stamps are part of a process to raise awareness on the status of the natural wonder.
Speaking at the launch of the commemorative stamps recently, Khama said the development also spoke to government’s commitment to work with communities living in and around the delta.
He said government was committed to working with Angola and Namibia to maintain the integrity of the delta. He lauded the relationship his ministry has with BotswanaPost regarding the use of national heritage sites on stamps.
He indicated that they would launch the commemorative stamps in communities so that they could understand requirements and responsibilities they had towards Botswana’s heritage sites.
“Shakawe will hold its launch on August 14 and Maun on August 24 this year,” he said.
For his part, the chairperson of BotswanaPost Board of directors Polokoetsile Motau said anyone who has lived or associated with Botswana and Batswana would appreciate how important the Okavango region is to Batswana and the economy of the country.
He said artists and designers that came up with the stamps will be celebrated the world over.
Motau said the presence of President Lt.General Ian Khama at the launch offered them an opportunity to show him what BotswanaPost was doing to deliver services to the residents of Botswana.
He said BotswanaPost was grateful for the assistance it continued to receive from its shareholder, the government of Botswana. Ends
