The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has retained Mr Dumelang Saleshando as its leader.
Mr Saleshando, who was unopposed, was initially to face Mr Tebogo Duna, who was disqualified at the eleventh hour on technical grounds. His candidacy was supposed to have been endorsed by three constituencies, but he only had two.
Mr Kentse Rammidi beat Mr Phillip Monowe to the position of secretary general with 473 votes against 433. Mr Rammidi was recently quoted by some media quarters as being for opposition unity and his win was viewed by some observers as setting the tone for the party.
In other positions, Ms Motsei Rapelana garnered 540 votes to become the party chairperson against Mr Phillip Bulawa’s 373.
Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse became the information and publicity secretary with 539 votes while Mr Ditiro Majadibodu got 367 votes.
Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang amassed 467 votes against Mr Taolo Lucas’ 442 for the position of vice president while deputy secretary general, Ms Tshegofatso Raditlhokwa and treasurer, Mr Denis Alexander were unopposed. All the candidates who lost accepted the results. Ends
