Gaborone Youth Singers classic

06 Jul 2015

This year’s venue for President’s Day Celebrations, choral music and poetry seemed not big enough to accommodate choral enthusiasts. Just before the event started, the Maitisong hall was full to its capacity while multitudes were still outside eagerly waiting to gain access to the hall.

It was a very disappointing situation made worse by the arrogant security officers who would not even allow people entrance at the Maru-A-Pula school gate. Those who were jammed at the gate expressed displeasure blaming it on the inappropriate choice of venue for competitions of such magnitude.

Many people were interested in choral music than poetry, as was suggested by murmurs from the disgruntled crowd who would not afford to miss a performance of their respective choirs. However, they ended up being allowed to into the hall where some had to stand just to witness amazing singing talent that the country have.

Nonetheless, first on stage was the Gaborone based choir, Gaborone Youth Singers which set the pace from the onset. The choir was untouchable, eloquently dressed with the ladies beaming in attire more like wedding dresses, the Gaborone Youth Singers made wonders on the stage.

With their amazing performance of the standard song, it was evident to many that the choir might emerge victorious. Other choirs such as Camel Choral of Tsabong, Serowe Symphony and Maun Choral also did well but they were nothing near Gaborone Youth Singers’ performance.

It also came a time when the choirs had to perform lerabi, still the Gaborone based choir proved immense talent, hence emerged the winners of the 2015 President’s Day Celebrations choral music. ENDS
