Police re-arrest escapee

Lobatse police have re-arrested and incarcerated a 36 year old prison escapee who originates from Gopong in the Molapowabojang-Mmathethe constituency to help them with investigations in a murder case. 

This was confirmed in an interview by Assistant Superintendent Benedict Matlho of Lobatse police on Wednesday, June 17. Assistant Superintendent Matlho said on June 10, the suspect was caught by Security Systems officers when responding to an alarm from Borakanelo farm near Lobatse-Ramatlabama circle. 

Supt. Matlho said the employees of the farm who were in the house, saw the man walking around the farm and pressed the alarm in fear that the man might be a robber. In response, Security Systems officers arrested the man and handed him to the police and prisons officers.

The re-arrested escapee was serving a 21 year sentence at the Gaborone State Prison after being convicted of rape, housebreaking and theft, stealing from a house and yet another case of escape from lawful custody. He has since been taken back to the Gaborone State Prison to continue with his sentence.

Supt. Matlho said the escapee may also help police regarding the death of a woman who was found unconscious near Jada’s farm but later died in hospital. ENDS
