Residents urged to take care of sewerage lines
18 Jun 2015
Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatius Moswaane has implored the residents of Maipaafela to desist from throwing some items in the sewer lines as they block them.
Addressing a Kgotla meeting in Maipaafela on Tuesday June 16, Mr Moswaane said the area has a foul smell because of the blocked drains and overflowing drains.
He said his question in parliament established that the malfunction of the sewer is because some residents throw items such as dead animals and old clothing in the drains leading to blockage.
Mr Moswaane said there is need for cooperation between the residents and Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) so that the problem could be addressed.
He further told the residents that the plots that were not connected to the sewer line will be connected when funds are available.
On other issues, Mr Moswaane appealed to the residents to work with the government in its efforts to eradicate poverty.
He called on those who were funded to take care of their projects and desist from neglecting their projects to enroll in other programmes such as Ipelegeng.
He said the beneficiaries should have the zeal to see their projects going to greater heights and should also register business names with the Registrar of Companies.
Ward Development Committee (WDC) chairperson, Ms Rose Setlhabi requested for the culverts in their area to be covered as they pose a risk to the pedestrians.
Ms Setlhabi complained that since the construction of the Tonota-Francistown the houses in Maipaafela are cracking as all trucks pass through their area en-route to their destinations.
Ms Sarah Williams applauded the MP for his contribution during the last parliament session.
She complained that since she was given sewing equipment in 2013 the machines have never worked because of the supplier’s failure to supply all the accessories.
Mr Keatlhametsemang Ntesang complained about security companies that fail to pay employees worked overtimes.
Ms Angelina Sengalo complained about the council’s failure to develop the parks in the ward. She also wondered why the Bluetown WDC owned a plot in Aerodrome while the plot is in Botsalano.
In response, Mr Moswaane said he will follow up the issue of the sewing equipment with both the supplier and the council.
He explained that according to labour laws security employees should work 45 hours per week and the rest of the hours should be regarded as overtime and be paid. He advised Mr Ntesang to engage the parliamentary office so that a solution could be sought.
On the issue of cracking houses, the Francistown West MP advised the residents to photograph their houses so that should they can prove their cases.
He further explained that the trucks will continue using the route even after the completion of the construction of the Tonota-Francistown road because the trucks would not be allowed on the spaghetti road.
He said residents should understand that there was no way trucks could not be allowed in the country as they contribute to the economy growth. ENDS
