Mosojane discourages child marriages

Batswana have been urged to eliminate child marriages because they violate the basic children’s rights.
Former Tatitown court president, Ms Ludo Mosojane, said this recently during a student panel discussion in preparation for Day of the African Child.
Ms Mosojane said there was a lot to celebrate about June 16, but combating child marriage would remain a challenge to the communities. She urged panelists to mobilise the community and urged students to be serious in their studies and appreciate government efforts in educating them.
Gerald Estates Court president, Kgosi Paul Motshwane also urged children to say no to marriage while still in school. Kgosi Motshwane said because lobola varied from one area to the other, the country needed to come up with standard system.
Detective Superintendent (Supt) Thomas Letebele of District No. 15 raised a concern that people were not reporting incidents of incest, rape and defilement to his office and called upon the public to report such matters to the police. Ends
