Murder-accused Ndjavera to apply for bail

04 Apr 2013

Thebe Njavera ,22, who is facing two counts of the murder of his two toddler daughters, has to wait until Friday before he could apply for bail.

In his appearance in court on April 3, Ndjavera pleaded with the court to grant him bail, but Magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba said the application could be done on Friday.

Mr Siziba said he and the accused person would need time to go through the document submitted by the prosecution opposing his bail. He said he would on the same day make a ruling on the application.

Earlier on, Ndjavera pleaded to be released because he was not yet convicted. He argued that it was improper to be remanded in custody while he was not convicted.

He also said keeping him in custody would lead to him losing his job. He also assured the court that once the bail was granted, he would not in any way interfere with the police investigations.

The state counsel, Mr Chimbisana Sechele said they were awaiting a psychiatric report which should arrive in two weeks. Mr Sechele said police investigations on the matter were almost complete and pleaded with the court to further remand the accused.

Ndjavera of Donga location in Francistown, reportedly used a sharp instrument to murder the toddlers aged two and four on February 4 in Somerset East location. ENDS
