Ghetto Urban Designs, a youth owned company that has been operating for the past nine years and mandated to raise awareness about issues on education and hosting cultural events amongst others, will host the biggest cultural event in Botswana come September.

In an interview, Ghetto Urban Designs managing director, Vincent Sebati the event, which is the first of its kind and a build-up to Independence, would be staged September 18-19 in the Okavango Delta. The much anticipated event, Sebati said, would engage all 20 missions within Botswana to organise the upcoming festival, a first of its kind.

Also, he said the event themed “Taking Botswana Heritage Site to the International Community and Building Strong Relations with Foreign Missions” would raise awareness on economic diversification and cultural heritage issues.

As an annual event, he added, it would also promote traditional cuisines, dress, games and music from the respective missions.

Further, he said the event would be held in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Culture, Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Botswana Tourism Organisation, Greens Gardens and Landscaping and Botswana Museums.

The two-day event, he said would also showcase food, crafts, and musicals on the first day and would then parade traditional designer clothing of respective missions and end with dinner dance.

He also stated that they would ensure that the cultural festival engaged five representing categories from each mission for selection to represent their country.

“The role of hosting this cultural festival in Botswana will be a natural relationship progression for the involved missions and I believe that, with commitment to continued growth, hosting such festival will be an ideal initiative to also develop and sell Botswana’s culture internationally,” he said. 

Meanwhile, the organisation had, since 2011, also hosted some events that promoted culture and family ties. ENDS
