Youngster murders grandfather

08 Apr 2015

A 24-year-old man of Etsha 13 in Okavango Sub-district has been arrested for allegedly hacking his grandfather to death with an axe at Dukwi ward.

Gumare police station commander, Superintendent Philip Lopang, said on April 5, the youngman followed the deceased to a funeral and informed him that he was wanted at home.

He said the deceased then left with the suspect who was carrying an axe, which he might have used to kill his grandfather. He said about 100 metres away from the funeral; the youngman could have hit the deceased on top of the right ear and ran away, living him lying on the ground.

The deceased’s body was later found by passersby who alerted people at the funeral and that was when they recalled that the old man accompanied his grandson from the funeral.

Superintendent Lopang said the suspect was called by one of the deceased’s son and found out that he was in Etsha 6. They tracked him and then took him to Etsha 13 where the police arrested him.

Investigations are still ongoing while the suspect is in police custody. ENDS
