Synopsis

Those who have seen Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the illustrious local comedy titled Tamabrown will probably be mesmerised by what the latest edition titled Tamabrown Part 4 is offering.

Produced at the close of last year (2014), Tamabrown 4 is a short comedy movie directed by Pelontle Mpatane and it is in both Ikalanga and Setswana languages with English subtitles for those who cannot understand the two languages used in the comedy.

The comedy features Radijo, the famous local comedian who is popularly known for his devotional love for food in his previous comedies; he acts alongside an old fellow who is fluent in Ikalanga.

The two have what we usually know as hate friendship; they cannot stand each other’s guts yet they still manage to get on well together as friends, particularly where mutual interest is concerned; for instance; for instance, they naively lose their own little money and cell phones to a heartless swindler as they try to make ends meet.

In another scene, the same thief, who claims to be from Johannesburg in South Africa, and cannot stop committing crimes, stealthily picks red-hot meat from a braaistand after tricking the owners into looking elsewhere.

The comedy also includes a scene where a young woman named Mma Selalee is very abusive to her husband Selalee, and her abusive ways are indicated by the insults and beatings she always visits upon her husband. Here the writer probably demonstrates that men can also be victims of domestic violence.

This is an excellent comedy that can be recommend to comedy lovers just; only it needs some improvements here and there,, otherwise it is a must buy to those with a great sense of humour.

The movie involves very talented Batswana who manage to act out their best to make it look like it is in a real life situation.

The lighting and camera work are appealing by the clear and well composed images they present; the background (environment) is also suitable and attractive for the story line.

Improvement must be made on the background music because it is a bit too loud and does not link well with the actions; a better theme will perhaps make a great difference.

The comedy is multi-themed and in one scene the message is clear that people should be cautious of crooks when looking for jobs.

Another message that can be derived from the comedy is that lies have a way of catching up with you eventually; this is demonstrated when Tamajasana and his grandchild lie to the school teacher who later discovers their little secret much their shame.

The score, according to this reviewer is 8/10 as there is still room for improvement, and, all in all, it is a job well done. ENDS
