Court grants trio bail
06 Apr 2015
Lobatse Magistrate Court has granted bail to three people who are accused of killing renowned gospel music singer, Mosimanegape 'Morse' Mokgwathisi.
The accused are Mr Mokgwathise's wife, Yvonne, Phemelo Thekoetsile and Clifford Nonofo. The trio is accused to have on or about March 9, 2015 at Mogojogojo, in the Southern Administrative District; acting together and in concert, murdered Mosimanegape Mokgwathise.
They got their bail on April 2, despite the prosecution’s attempt to have them remanded in custody to allow for effective investigations.
Sub-Inspector Mishingo Kedikanetswe of Botswana Police Service had argued that investigations were not yet complete as they were still awaiting the post mortem report from the forensic office and they needed two more days to complete other investigations.
Mr Tebatso Seabueng from Seabueng Attorneys, who represented the accused persons, disagreed saying that the prosecutor’s reasons were not sufficient enough to deny his clients bail. Mr Seabueng said his clients could not in any way interfere with the investigations.
Regarding the fear that they might flee the country, he said there was no how his clients could do that, as they were all citizens of Botswana who had no connections outside the country.
The conditions of the bail were that each one of them pays P2 000, surrender travelling documents to police and report to Lobatse police every Monday until their next mention on May 4. ends
