Man appears for murder
29 Mar 2015
A 30-year-old man, Keitumetse Dikombwe, also known as Dicks, appeared before Gumare Magistrate Court on March 25, in connection with the recent murder of 28-year-old Mr Goitseone Nkwenga.
Particulars of the case were that on the night of March 21, at 0020am at or near Calabash Bar premises in Gumare, the casual labourer with the Department of Roads in Gumare, who is from Subiya ward in Gumare, allegedly murdered Mr Nkwenga of Kgosing ward at Etsha 6.
The prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Kamogelo Olatotswe asked the Gumare Senior Magistrate, Mr Mmoloki Sibanda to remand the suspect in custody as the case was still fresh and that investigations were still ongoing.
He expressed fear that should he be granted bail, he might interfere with investigations; the custody was also meant to save his life as emotions of the public were still high. Earlier on, the accused person, who represented himself, agreed with the prosecutor to continue being kept in custody for his own safety.
He also told the court that he killed the deceased unintentionally in self-defence as the victim was harassing him with a knife which he (accused) grabbed and ended up stabbing him with.
Magistrate Sibanda said the court would not grant the accused bail since he had committed murder; he set another date of April 27 and advised the accused person to seek legal advice if he wished.
That was the second murder case in Gumare since January this year; the first murder occurred on the night of January 17 when a 19-year-old woman, Kamogelo Ovuya of Legonono ward was murdered. ENDS
