Maun music enthusiasts will be a happy lot as Kwaito outfit Eskimos who have bounced back after seven-years break is set to launch their African tour at Trekkers on March 28.
The group released their 14-tracked album Glory early this month. In an interview the group’s manager, Zenzele Hirschfield of Zen Promotions said Maun revelers should expect an amazing show, given that the group has not released for the past seven years.
She said they will treat their fans with songs from Glory and few from their past albums, to take their fans back the memory lane and rekindle their bond. They feature Juju boy on the hit track Cecilia. Glory is their gratitude to the man above for holding them together all these years.
Eskimos have been in the industry for 14 years and have survived the test of time. The group is a quartet entailing Kagiso Skhejo Ketswantwa, Kabo Zynne Mmolawa, Goitsemodimo Javas Binang and Keitshupile Mandla Mokwena. It was formed in 1999 and in 2004 they released Back to Kasi under Vee’s record Black Moneymakers.
The quartet stole the heart of many with their song G-wawa. They have also worked with Eric Ramco, where they released O mpimpile and Still Makimo which made headlines with the track Ke go senka o seyo.
Three of them share their stage names with South Africa group Trompies as the group that has always inspired them. While some of the members are now established businessmen, it is humbling to see that they still embrace kasi life.
Mandla has studied engineering at Limkokwing University and has worked at Ya Rona FM, where he left to pursue his entrepreneurial skills and has started a business. Zynne has juice and ice pop factory. The youngest member of the group Skhejo is studying construction while Javas is an active sales and marketing person.
Last year they were crowned the best Kwaito group during the first Yarona Music Award. Zen revealed that in May, they will embark on the Southern African tour, and already they have secured dates for South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Lesotho. The manager is currently talking to promoters in Nigeria, UK and USA. ENDS
