Miss Zomaland pageant returns

19 Mar 2015

The annual Miss Zomaland is back with organisers promising a better and well organised event compared to last year’s one.

Organisers of the pageant, Modisakgotla Hiri and Bolokang Marambe, said they learnt from their shortfalls when they started last year as well as from the audience’s feedback.

According to the duo, this year’s contestants will be parading on a stage as compared to last year when they paraded on an open floor. They said with feedback from audience that the sound quality was poor last year; this time around they engaged a professional sound system from African Rhythms.

They also promised to have tight security compared to last year’s pageant for the safety of their audience and smooth running of the event. Miss Zomaland pageant powered by ZomaGroup started last year with self-sponsorship from Hiri, Marambe and Goemeone Letebele.

They also sold t-shirts with various prints, the most popular being ‘if found lost return to Ghanzi’ and ‘zomaland’. But this year they managed to solicit sponsorship although it would not be enough. The duo says they got sponsorship from Puma Energy, Ghanzi Farmers Supplies as well as an individual Dr Bredenkemp.

Their estimates, they said went up to P10 000 to run the show, but say they will improvise on what they have to meet important stuff to run the show smoothly.

They said the auditions were open to all and 12 girls were shortlisted compete for the title.

This year’s prizes are not monetary because according to them, they want the girls to have something that will add value to their lives as they realised that with cash prizes winners just splash the money and left with nothing. The queen will be engaged in charity project of her choice with consultation with organisers.

Last year’s winner, Omphemetse Ngwakwena embarked on donating to the elderly in Ghanzi as well as working with Humana People volunteering at the center.

The event that will be held at Ghanzi community hall, will slot Djs; Jassabel, PMaster and Huu10 as well as Flat Cap, Lebensto and Svuto entertaining revelers with MCs Shobena and Mtshido and cover charge is P40. BOPA
