RuralClan hopes to conquer industry

08 Mar 2015

RuralClan Group is a motswako clique of five young men; two rappers and three non-rappers born and raised in Mabutsane in western Ngwaketse.

The five young men desire to penetrate the market through their music and a new clothing label called Rural Clan.

They merged the old kwaito and modern motswako which makes them stand out from other musicians. Members include; Tumi ‘Tumakadika’ Keisang, Lesedi ‘Meropa’ Keisang, Tebogo ‘Kono’ Kono, Goitsemang ‘Guiz’ Moletsane and Roy ‘Roi Chad’ Pule.

The group was formed in 2013 with the sole purpose of showcasing their music rapping skills and what made things easy for the group is that they shared the goals of penetrating the music world and all enjoyed listening to motswako music.

They liked songs of Mo-Molemi, Tuks Senganga, HT-Tautona, Khuli Chana, HHP, Nomadic, Scar and Samba T.

Rural Clan’s official debut single titled Dear Mama was released in May 2014 after being produced by Izvare of crew called Uptown and engineered by Wazha Thabo Nganunu well known as Beatslayer of Music Empire Records.

The single sleeve of the single was done at Naziz artworks and printed at Daggie Digital Studios and currently the group is not signed to any record label.

In an interview, the members said they distributed their music because there were enough of them to have a role each; they have song writers in the group and they work together as a team and brothers.

Despite other members in the group pursuing tertiary education and others working, they always find time to meet on weekends to work on upcoming projects.

They also said they were planning to shoot a quality video for their single as soon as they got enough fund.

The response following the play in RB2, they said, has been good

They said it worked well in the streets and social media, adding that they were not happy about the airplay of the track on other radio stations since they never received any feedback from them.

The group cited that most people listened to their track on their Facebook page called RuralClan and on twitter RuralClan Bw and they shared the song on WhatsApp and people supported them more.

RuralClan Group has a new project of T-shirts branded ‘Rural Clan- Born Rural but learnt to be Urban Smart’, as they believe in being real of who they are since they have realised that most people are ashamed of where they come from. However, as for them they were proud of their roots and they did not fake anything or anyone.

The group aspires to have their own merchandise shop where they will sell products of their own brand, but as for now the group does things step by step as they want their fans to know them.

The group sells the T-shirts for P130 each as a way of pushing their brand and people have shown their utmost support in buying the T-shirts and in two months’ time they will be selling jerseys while caps will follow as they continue to expand.

The group said that they had realised that it was not easy to get money and that they ventured into attire trade as most people like clothing labels, adding that funds from selling T-shirts will help them with money for recording their upcoming project and other projects to sustain themselves.

The group noted that the T-shirts helped them to advertise their brand as they have so far covered Gaborone, Kanye, Mabutsane and now they are looking forward to reaching other areas.

RuralClan Group perform mostly in beauty pageants such as Miss Kwari Mabutsane, parties and graduation celebrations, and they have performed alongside Ntsa, Caesar Motswako, Sentence, Kaycee, and Poetic Syntax.

The group continues to work on releasing singles before dropping an album or a mixtape so that they have a good fan base and market as they now freely give their music on the Internet to listeners so that they know them better.

In future the group desires that music will help them and their families to make a living; it also assists those who are less privileged through giving back to the community within which we live.

The group members encouraged young people to complete their studies first and later do what they believe is right and will take them somewhere in life. ENDS
