The coordinator of Miss Botswana says despite last year’s no show, this year they will hold an awe-inspiring competition given the pageant’s newly identified promoter.

In an interview, Dorcas Molefhe said although the Botswana Council of Women, the pageant’s license holder did not hold a pageant last year, people should look forward to a grand show as they have revamped it.

The last show was held in 2013 and the winner, Rosemary Keofitlhetse is still the reigning queen. 

Last year Botswana did not have a representative at Miss World.

She said they have engaged a lawyer who has finalised paperwork with the pageant’s new promoter, yet to be announced.

The coordinator said they decided to engage a lawyer to draw a bidding contract to avoid issues given the hullabaloos they encountered with the past organisers.

Molefhe said that they were not happy with what the pageant was turning into and said issues of no prizes for the winner were tarnishing their name.

“The pageant is meant to empower the girls. We wanted the new promoter to hold the pageant in April, but given the logistics involved that could not happen, so it has to be set for a later date,” she said.

“But what I want to promise Batswana is that we have faith in the new promoter and trust that he will execute a show that will redeem the pageant’s image.

This time around the pageant will be big,” added Molefhe.

She said they were to meet with the lawyer and promoter this week to enable the process of scouting to kick off. 

She said it would be after the meeting that they would be in a position to mention the date of the pageant.

In the past, Miss Botswana used to pull crowds and attracted healthy returns until in recent years. 

Due to poor organisation of the show, the pageant became something that had seen sponsors being reluctant to be associated with. 

Hopefully the new partner willredeem the pageant. ENDS
