20 Feb 2015

Police in Machaneng are investigating  a case of sexual molestation of a two-year-old girl.

Machaneng police station commander, Superintendent Peggy Vakalisa said in an interview that the case was reported to the police on February 16 around 10 o’clock in the evening.

Supt Vakalisa said it was reported that the girl was found crying in the bush by passers-by who were able to identify her and took her to her home place at Palamaokue ward in Machaneng. Currently, the child is admitted at Princess Marina Hospital.

She appealed to the public to help the police in their investigations, adding that no one was arrested in connection with the incident.

Supt Vakalisa urged parents to always provide protection for their children at all times. She said that if police could find any case of child negligence, the mother would face charges.

She also cautioned those who commit crimes and blame the influence of alcohol and drugs, saying that people should act responsibly and avoid excessive use of such substances.

In another case, a 19-year-old man was found hanging from the rafters of his house at Thokolo cattlepost near Machaneng.

Superintendent Vakalisa said the man’s neighbours reported the incident to the police on February 18.

The man, she said, originated from Sefhare in Mononyane ward and police investigations were continuing. The deceased’s body lies at the mortuary awaiting post mortem, she said. ENDS
