16 Feb 2015

Tonota police are investigating a case in which a 32-year-old man allegedly hacked a 26-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son with an axe on February 10.

In an interview, Tonota station commander, Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse said the woman and her son were admitted at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital with serious injuries while the suspect was in police custody.

Supt Badumetse said a day before the incident, the victim and the suspect reportedly had a misunderstanding and on February 10 at midnight, the suspect forced opened the door at the victim’s home and hacked her and the boy with an axe.

He said the victim and the suspect were lovers. He appealed to couples to always seek counselling instead of resorting to violence whenever they had misunderstandings.

On a different incident, Supt Badumetse said they were investigating an accident in which a 38-year-old man sustained injuries after he fell out of a truck that he was driving along the Gaborone-Francistown road between Foley and Tonota on February 12.

He said it was alleged that the truck hit and killed two cows resulting in the driver losing control of the truck and in the process the driver fell out while the truck proceeded to the nearby bush. Supt Badumetse said investigations on the two incidents were on-going. ENDS
