Women impress in stand up comedy
15 Feb 2015
Standup comedy in Botswana is predominantly men and is vastly becoming another form of entertainment for many.
Comedy enthusiasts on Friday (February 13) were treated to a non-stop laughter where funny lady, Olebogeng Tsiako was amongst the favourite of the night in the lineup. She managed to keep the audience tickled throughout her stage time with her jokes about things happening in people’s day to day lives.
Tsiako, who is also a musician and poet, said she started doing standup comedy in 2013, where Major Moves Comedy had organised a workshop for upcoming comics. She said her friends had always told her how funny she was even when they were just chatting, that’s when the idea of trying standup comedy came to mind. Nonetheless, the Friday show was Major Moves Comedy’s first event of the year which saw masses descending President Hotel for their amusement.
Dubbed the Cracker Night Comedy, the show brought hilarity to comedy enthusiasts, featuring Botswana’s most funny and acclaimed stand-up comedian Bafana ‘Ribcracker’ Letsatsi, alongside his top comedian friends while it also introduced local upcoming comics. On the roster was also the Molepolole based Jerusalema, who is a versatile comedian on stage with a good mixture of quick wit, topical and observational humor.
Jerusalema was also the highlight of the night as the audience laughed to every joke he made. There was also Phenyo The Master, Mokgatla, and Kay Lo among others who did not disappoint. ENDS
