BIUST re-opens Thursday

11 Feb 2015

The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) will be re-opened tomorrow (February 12) after being closed today owing to a bomb scare.

According to a press release from BIUST, the university would resume business after it was evacuated on February 11 following an SMS from an anonymous source that there was a bomb within the university premises.

On that day, the university administration immediately informed the Botswana Police Services (BPS) and all staff members, students and contractors were evacuated from the premises towards more secure places.

The press release further stated that security agents were still conducting a thorough search of the campus and investigating the source of the threat, an issue the BPS confirmed to a BOPA reporter on Wednesday afternoon.

The university management, after consultation with BPS, had closed BIUST to facilitate the work of the security agents.

The BIUST management assured stakeholders and the nation that the university was secure and safe.  It also expressed gratitude to the BPS for their prompt response, as well as staff, students and contractors for their cooperation in allowing security officials to proceed with their job.
