Katara tsa moya find solace in music

08 Feb 2015

While a lot of youth lurk around with nothing to do and end up engaging in deviant behavior such as alcohol abuse and others, a group of six youths from Francistown has a different story to tell.

The group that goes by the name, Katara tsa moya has found solace in traditional dance music and so far they have recorded and released their first album.

In an interview with BOPA recently, the founder of the group, Chairman Toteng said the group was formed in 2013 by a group of six unemployed youth.

He said the aim of the group which comprises two females and four males was to keep away from bad practices such as alcohol and other unbecoming behavior.

“We decided to form a group that will help us stay focused and keep us away from uncalled behavior while we are still in search of some employment opportunities and at the same time we wanted to come up with a means to make ends meet,” said Toteng.

Toteng advised other youths not to hide their talents but rather they should stick to them as a means to fend for themselves.

“Ever since we started singing, our lives have improved, when we are not engaged in some festivals, we do some performances in weddings and we never go back with empty hands,” he said.

For his part, the marketing manager of the group, Victor Kootshotse said the group started off doing some demonstrations and later last year they released their first album titled Batsadi ba me.

He said the album has six tracks with outstanding tracks like the title track Batsadi ba me, Camera, Tsatsi la Morena and Masiela.

Kootshotse said the title track which always leaves spectators begging for more simply teaches people to appreciate, honor and respect their parents regardless of their social status.

He said the album was recorded and produced under the management of VGK studios at Bobonong and the genre in the album focused on dikhwaere.

Kootshotse said the reception from the public is satisfactory and so far the group has performed in music festivals, social gatherings, and some charitable events with some of the local artistes.  He noted that money generated is shared equally. ENDS
