Investigations on alleged kidnapping hit snag
30 Jan 2015
Police investigations into an alleged kidnapping, which reportedly took place at Block 9 in Gaborone, have hit a snag as nothing concrete has surfaced.
Gaborone West police deputy station commander, Assistant Superintendent Isaac Manadi said in an interview that their investigations into the matter had not borne fruit.
“We cannot confirm nor deny that there has been a kidnapping, because all we have are allegations that have not been substantiated that a man was seen dragging a woman into a bush,” he said.
Ass Supt Manadi said on January 29, they received a report that someone saw a woman being dragged into a bush in the neighbourhood of Block 9.
The reporting person could also not provide more details other than that a man and a woman were involved, saying distance compromised ability to state the age range of those involved.
“We sent out a search party that combed the area in vain, and then asked for back up from a police helicopter, but still could find a lead. Furthermore, no one has come to report a missing person’s case since the event allegedly took place,” he said.
Ass Supt Manadi said they would welcome any further information that could shed light on the issue, but they had now scaled down investigations, as they had nothing concrete to work on.
“If at least we had a missing person’s case we could have something to work on, but for now all we have is unsubstantiated allegations,” he said. ENDS
