Lack of funds hampers upcoming artists

Lack of financial backing for artistes poses a serious challenge to the music industry.Young and upcoming artistes, who are usually without any financial support, are finding it hard to penetrate the industry.

In an interview, leader of a new music group called ‘Moruti wa Maaka’, Oagile Gaokgorwe, said despite having the quench to unearth their hidden talents, they are hindered by lack of sponsorship.As a result, Gaokgorwe, aged 26 called on government and the public to assist as the success if their industry can also contributes to the reduction of unemployment and lawlessness.

Also, he decried that pirating has reduced some artistes to paupers.Therefore, Gaokgorwe called on government to join hands with artistes in the fight against piracy.

The ever improving digital world which makes music to be easily copied in the internet, he said has exacerbated the matter.Meanwhile, Gaokgorwe noted that though they are new in the music industry, their album has penetrated the market well.

He said it had thrilled people in central district over the festive season and remains optimistic that it will make a mark. Previously, he said artists made more money through music concert, but that has dwindled as people now choose not to attend music festivals.

However, he applauded locals who hired them during wedding ceremonies as the move assisted them in making money for their survival. The group leader further highlighted that since his group is made out of five artists from different backgrounds in the music industry, it helped them come with ideas to develop their group.

“We are working as a team and this brought positive results for us as we came up with different ideas in the development of our group’s vision,” he said. That, he said helped them to come up with the idea of the album they named ‘Moruti wa Maaka’.

He said the title track was due to their realisation that many people have been cheated by false pastors. Thus, he said the message is to warn the public by spreading the message about false pastors. ENDS
