Geeven Koobeilwe known to his fans as Materase is doing great in the music world through his kwaito album.
Recently the youthful star got a chance to perform in South Africa at Kurumane and Mapetla. Materase said in an interview that the invitation by DJ Order to perform in the two places came as a great opportunity for him to market himself.
He said such opportunities exposed them to the international market and that it was a lifetime chance that one could never miss. He added that he was still growing in the music industry and that it was an encouragement for him to work more on his music career. He noted that he was working on his second album and a DVD to be released in April.
Born and breed in Kanye, the kwaito artiste started singing in 2007 and released his first offering in May 2013 with 10 tracks which included Nnyuku, Igamalam, Uphetheni, Thatha maliakho, makhelwane, Gake a tlela mejolo, Bitsa magatla, Thatha maliakho (house mix), Dlala kwaito and Tjova.
The kwaito artiste has collaborated with artistes such as Dixon 5, Amajii and Coloza, who is known for his hit song Mogoditshane Route 7.
He said hit songs from his first offering were Makhelwane and Uphethini, adding that he performed in various shows such as the Maitisong Music Festival and at local clubs alongside Makwakwa and Captain Dira which has increased his skill to perform to large audiences.
For the love of music and mentoring upcoming stars, he has worked with Lef Jack and Amajii.
His organiser, Cedric Keamoabe noted that the chance for Materase to perform outside the country gave him more exposure which was also an advantage to help him market his music and penetrate the international market and make his fans proud.
Kemoabe said the 26-year-old was inspired by artistes such as Bricks and Mandoza from South Africa.
In future the kwaito star sees himself performing in foreign countries such as Namibia and Zimbabwe. His advantage is that he sings in different languages.
He said his songs receive airplay in Gabz Fm and Duma Fm.
He also said it takes time to be called to play in such programmes as Mokaragana on Botswana Television.
Materase said it was important for upcoming stars to know and learn that culture, language and dress code or attire matter a lot in the industry if they want to be accepted as role models.
“I encourage upcoming artistes to be highly educated, to be serious about their dreams, to follow their talent and sing music that suits them and co-operate with major artistes for mentoring,” he said.
The youthful artiste promised his fans the best music from his second offering. ENDS
