Eleven people died in a road traffic accident after their vehicle hit a donkey and veered off the road before hitting a tree.

The accident occurred along the Palapye/ Martins Drift highway in the early hours of Sunday January 12.

Botswana Police Services public relations unit says 18 passengers were on board, including the driver.

 

“The deceased all believed to be Zimbabweans are five males, five females and a minor. Seven other passengers also believed to be Zimbabweans were admitted at Palapye Primary Hospital with serious injuries,” the statement noted. 


It said preliminary police investigations indicated that all passengers except the driver did not have travel documents and were destined for South Africa.

The names of the deceased are withheld until the next of kin have been informed. The statement said police investigations into the cause of the accident were ongoing. ENDS
