Ga Maila Fest annual music festival attracted multitudes despite downpour that threatened to spoil the party for revellers who welcomed the New Year with pomp and joy.

The festival that started in the afternoon at Motse Lodge in Kanye on New Year’s Eve also experienced some technical glitches. 

Poor sound nearly spoiled the show as some artists tried to buy time while party animals remained as cool as ever, but dancing the night away.

For indeed, revellers sought nothing but a pleasurable new year’s eve and never bothered to seek refuge from the showers that left many dripping wet.

The festival’s production coordinator, Nkgopolang Tlhomelang said in an interview that a lineup of 16 artists and 13 Djs kept revellers busy throughout the night and well into the morning of the New Year.

Of the 16 Djs three did not play, amongst them Dj Sly who was attending to other logistics because he was the owner of the show. Tlhomelang described the festival as a success despite the rain that interrupted the lineup prior to resorting to a backup power supply.

He explained that it was unfortunate that the Dj desk got wet thus affecting the sound quality and all was sorted out, thus meeting the revellers’ expectations. 

He said the show would improve with time more so that it’s a technical environment.

He sympathised with those who travelled to grace the show only to find tickets sold out. “We expected 3 000 people but people came en-masse and the tickets were sold out around 4pm,” he said.

After all, the show started in time and Tlhomelang applauded police officers for there was peace and there were no incidents recorded. Because it was on its first year, he said there was room for improvement considering issues such as organising transport for pleasure seekers because the venue is on the outskirts of the village.

At the end, memories from artists like Drama Boi, MMP family, Shota, Dj Gouveia, HT, to cite but a few, will forever live. ENDS
