37 die in festive accidents

Thirty-seven (37) people died in separate road accidents countrywide during the festive season, according to a report from Botswana Police Services (BPS).
The report released by the police public relations unit on Tuesday January 7, included data captured between December 19, 2014 and January 5, 2015. However, the report indicated a decline in overall road fatalities.
Among those fatal accidents, three people died on December 28 when their car collided with a south bound bus along the A1 highway.
The report says 377 people died in road accidents in 2014 compared to 411 who perished in road crashes in 2013. There has also been a decline in other crimes like murder, rape, armed robberies and break-ins.
“During the last festive season the BPS recorded 16 murder, 62 rape, 42 armed robberies and 185 break-in cases compared to 22 murder, 60 rape, 36 armed robberies and 766 house break-ins cases registered during same period in 2013,” the report states. ENDS
