Tonota police probe deaths

Tonota Police are investigating an incident in which a 22-year-old woman was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital after she was involved in an accident.

According to Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse, a driver of a Toyota Hilux 2.7 lost control of the vehicle on January 1 around 5am on a gravel road in Mmandunyane.

He said the vehicle fell on one side, seriously injuring one of its five occupants, who was later certified dead on arrival at the hospital.

Supt Badumetse said the other passengers and the driver were treated for minor injuries and released the same day.

In another incident, Supt Badumetse said a 31-year-old woman is helping with investigations after her five year old child sustained burns. 

He said it is alleged that the woman and her husband had misunderstanding whereupon she tried to pour boiling water to the husband only to for the child to suffer burns. The toddler is currently at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

Meanwhile a 51-year-old man is helping the police in connection with a malicious damage to property case after he allegedly damaged three doors with an axe following a misunderstanding with family members. 

Superintendent Cyprian Magalila of Tatitown police said his station also recorded three deaths between December 26 and January 1.

He said on December 26, two men aged 23 and 26 years committed suicide in Mathangwane and Mafungo/Hubona respectively.

He said the 23-year-old is a Motswana from Mpatane Ward while the 26-year-old man is a Zimbabwean.

In the third incident, which took place on January 1, Supt Magalila said a 57-year-old man of Chadibe was found motionless in a house and was rushed to Nyangabgwe hospital where he was certified dead.

He said the police are awaiting a postmortem to establish the cause of the man’s death. ENDS
